Glamour hosted their annual Women Of The Year Awards at Berkeley Square in London last Tuesday. It was a star-studded event, attended by Suki Waterhouse, Kerry Washington, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Ellie Goulding, and of course our very own Kate Hudson.
We were so excited to see Kate, who attended the event with her mum Goldie Hawn, win the Entrepreneur Award for her work as co-founder of Fabletics. Fabletics has grown since launching in the US in the last 1.5 years to become one of the top brands in the athleisure segment and is available in seven countries on two continents. In the US alone, Fabletics already has more than 1.8 million Facebook fans, with more fans joining daily.
In her acceptance speech, Kate said she was motivated to inspire women to become more active. “When you start a company, obviously the core of it comes from something you are passionate about. For me, that would be to be active, to have support, to set goals that are actually attainable, to be surrounded by women, to be empowered and to create communities of women,” she said.
She decided to take her love of sport, being active and fashion to create a line of clothes that she could wear everyday. It was also important to her that the line be affordable for women from all walks of life.
Kate also sweetly credited her mother for being a strong motivating force. She said, “I grew up with an incredibly ambitious mother, but her ambition was for a greater purpose…in true Goldie form she was doing it for all women. We are all here together and we need to support each other, we need to create a support system. We are more powerful together.”
