Valentine’s Day has always been a special day for my family as it’s my parents’ anniversary. When I was younger, my brothers and I would wake up to fun gift baskets filled with token items such as heart paperweights and books about love. But more importantly, we would always have a group discussion about how we feel loved and cherished – the day was a celebration of love. Throughout my life, that has always stuck with me, and Valentine’s Day is not necessarily about receiving but instead about giving my love and sharing the day with the people who really matter to me.

To that end, you don’t have to have a significant other to celebrate Valentine’s Day. One of my favourite Valentine’s memories is the year my high school girlfriends and I gave each other bunches of roses and walked around school with them all day long; it was the best feeling! Valentine’s Day is also a good opportunity to celebrate self-love. Read inspirational quotes, do the things you love and enjoy being happy with yourself.
