The ability to rest and relax with my family at the holidays is always a joy, but getting to that point can be more than a little bit stressful.  I find that no matter what I do to avoid it, holiday prep always gets hectic in one way or another, and between the decorations, the gift buying and everything else, things are bound to get down to the wire.

When I do last-minute holiday shopping or planning, I always feel rushed and can’t really enjoy it.  But when I take the time to really conceptualise my gifts and put plans into motion early, not only do I come up with my best ideas, but the process is fun as opposed to a chore.  In my opinion, the best gifts involve sentimental elements like photos or mementos, and executing them takes time and planning.

This year, I am committed to starting my planning early.  I’ll coordinate at least one fun seasonal activity to do with the kids prior to Christmas, and I’ll plan for a group on my gift-giving list (like their teachers) and buy for them well in advance.  By getting an early start on my holiday to-dos, I’ll end up stressing less and enjoying the holiday season much more.
