Truth be told, we’re all on the quest for a clear, luminous complexion, soft skin and shiny tresses. There are endless beauty products and treatments that promise just that, but why not take a natural, fuss-free approach to getting gorgeous? Here are 5 essential oils you should consider adding to your beauty arsenal.
1. Rosehip Seed Oil is loaded with vitamin C, Omega 3, 6 and 9, lycopene and linoleic acids. All promote the regeneration of skin cells, fight the signs of ageing, reduce fine lines, boost collagen production, moisturise the skin and help minimize scarring. It’s a “dry” oil, so it’s quickly absorbed by the skin and it’s gentle enough to be used undiluted on the skin. It’s a delicate oil and best if stored in a dark, cool place or the fridge.
2. Lavender essential oil is calming, soothing and promotes sleep, plus relaxation. It’s gentle enough to apply directly to the skin while also being antibacterial and antiviral. It treats minor cuts and burns and relieves migraines, simply massage a few drops on the temples. Now, for it’s beauty benefits: use it to treat acne, soothe skin inflammation and add a fantastic, chemical-free scent to your locks. It also prevents hair loss and combats excess oil; simply mix about 10 drops of lavender oil with 2 tablespoons of olive oil and massage onto hair and scalp.
3. Tea Tree Oil is one of the most important items in my personal beauty routine. It works wonders as an on-the-spot blemish treatment, clearing breakouts overnight, thanks to it’s antibacterial properties. You can use it for minor cuts and blisters and soak dry, tired feet in warm water, plus 10-15 drops of tea tree oil. Treat dandruff and dry scalp, or remove product buildup from your scalp with this invigorating oil. Simply massage it onto your scalp with olive oil, or add to your shampoo, it also adds shine to your locks. For those with sensitive skin, dilute tea tree oil with water, witch hazel, or almond oil, before applying on skin. In addition to it’s beauty benefits, it’s used to soothe allergies, chest congestion and as an all-natural cleaner for the home.
4. Jojoba Oil is a wonderful all-over moisturiser with a high vitamin E content. Vitamin E is essential for regeneration of skin cells, which makes it great for the treatment of scars. Jojoba resembles your natural sebum and collagen which helps preserve the resilience of your skin and helps prevent the over-production of oil. It boasts anti-inflammatory properties, so it can be used on acne-prone skin. Use it to relieve scalp dryness, moisturise the ends of your hair, deep condition, and you can coat your hair with it before swimming to protect from chlorine and salt water. It makes for a gentle and moisturising eye and face makeup remover, lip conditioner and soothes dry cuticles. You’ll reach for this multi-tasker again, and again.
5. Maracuja Oil, also known as Passionfruit Seed Oil, is a nourishing and moisturising oil, rich in vitamin C, essential fatty acids, especially Linoleic Acid. It combats fine lines and wrinkles, is fast-absorbing and you’ll notice brighter skin, almost overnight. This lovely oil regulates the sebum level of the skin, which prevents your skin from being too dry or oily. It doesn’t stop there, you can also use this oil for your hair. Use it on your scalp or condition your ends, your overall beauty regimen needs this oil.
