Valentine’s Day has always been a special day for my family as it’s my parents’ anniversary. When I was younger, my brothers and I would wake up to fun gift baskets filled with token items such as heart paperweights and books about love. But more importantly, we would always have a group discussion about how we feel loved and cherished – the day was a celebration of love. Throughout my life, that has always stuck with me, and Valentine’s Day is not necessarily about receiving but instead about giving my love and sharing the day with the people who really matter to me. World Peace Meditation Day was held for the first time on December 31, 1986. That first year, more than 500 million people of all religions in more than 70 countries meditated for an hour starting at noon Greenwich Mean Time. The idea behind this movement was that meditating on peace would create peace. I find it especially fitting that World Peace Meditation Day is observed on the last day of the calendar year.
