A NOTE FROM KATE: MY GOLDEN GLOW TIPS

BY Kate Hudson

It can be hard to resist the temptation of a tan; being bronzed can definitely make you appear tighter and toned. I’m outdoorsy by nature and love taking in the sun’s rays while being active, but my dermatologist has limited me to 25 minutes a day. Now, to achieve a golden glow without damaging my skin, I turn to spray tanning.

I was not a fan of spray tans when they first came out – the terrible smell or the unflattering orange tint of many spray tans were a turn off. Today, there are much better options, and I’ve discovered a sunless airbrush spray tan that uses natural and organic ingredients; it also does not contain parabens or alcohols, and is completely odourless. I’ve found that exfoliating as the spray tan technician advises really does work, and you should also make sure your skin is completely dry and free of any lotion or moisturiser. After the spray tan is applied, let it sit for the day, and don’t shower until the next morning.

Here are some self-tanners you can try at home to add a little glow to your look this winter:

L’Oreal Sublime Bronze Self-Tanning Mist, $10.99: This self-tanning mist lets you achieve an airbrushed spray tan at home.
Clinique Self Sun Body Tinted Lotion, $23: For those who want to build up a tan, this formula gradually deepens over several hours.
Dior Bronze Autobronzant Self Tanner, $35: This self-tanner makes many “best of” lists for its easy application, quick-drying formula and staying power (4 to 5 days).
St. Tropez One Night Only Instant Glow Body Lotion, $18: This is a great product for people who want an instant tan, but don’t want to use a self tanner. It washes off, so you can add a little color without the commitment.
