7 WAYS TO PROTECT YOUR SKIN THIS WINTER

The winter chill has arrived, which means it’s time to change up your beauty routine. Below are tips to keep your skin beautiful and protected all season long.

SPF– Slather it on daily, even in the winter. Protect your ears, face, lips, nose, and any exposed body parts with broad-spectrum sun cream. Apply 30 minutes before heading outside and reapply if you’ll be out for a long time.

Moisturise– Swap your summer moisturiser for an oil-based moisturiser, as it will create a protective layer on the skin that helps retain more moisture. Try coconut oil, almond oil, or avocado oil, they’ll provide just the right amount of moisture and won’t clog pores.

Stay Hydrated– You may not “feel” thirsty, but keeping hydrated will keep your skin plump and radiant, and it’s great for your overall health. Check out this helpful list of hydrating foods.

Short, Cooler Showers– Long, hot showers may sound like a great idea, but hot water will strip moisture from your hair and skin. Aim for a 10 minute lukewarm shower, and moisturise immediately after to lock in moisture.

Accessorise– Don’t step out without a beanie/hat, scarf, gloves, and even sunglasses. They will protect you from windburn and prolonged exposure to cold air, especially if you prefer to get fit outdoors.

Vitamin C– load up on citrus, dark leafy greens, and/or a supplement, to help the body’s production of collagen and boost immunity. Look for a face serum that contains Vitamin C for brighter skin and anti-aging benefits.

Protect your lips– Chilly winds can take dry, chapped lips to a whole new level. Keep them moisturised by applying lip balm throughout the day, and as mentioned above, use SPF. If lips are flaky, exfoliate with a clean, dry toothbrush, be sure to brush gently. Try a moisturising treatment a few times a week.
