1. Take a Break
Sometimes it seems impossible to take a break, but taking 5-10 minutes to keep you sane is essential. After you take a quick break to grab a snack or drink, scroll through your phone or walk outside. You will feel like a new person who is ready to tackle your to-do list!
2. Take deep breaths
When you feel your anxiety taking over, remember to breathe. By taking deep breaths through your nose, you will help lower your heart rate and blood pressure which will reverse the effects of stress. Going outside for a breath of fresh air works wonders as well!
Exercise produces endorphins, which are natural pain and stress fighters. Incorporate exercise to your work day by taking the stairs instead of the elevator, walking to lunch instead of driving or even squeezing a quick gym session during your lunch break.
4. Practice Proper Posture
If your job consists of sitting down all day, watch your posture. Hunching over creates pain in your back, which can lead to physical stress. Practice sitting up straight to correct your posture, and invest in an ergonomic chair.
5. Keep it Classy
Believe it or not, classical music is known to relax our minds. If you’re not a fan of classical music, no problem! Jam out to your favourite tunes to lift your mood and get those creative juices going.
6. Be Positive
Stick to an “I can do it” attitude and stay positive throughout your day. Believing in your abilities to achieve any task even in the most stressful situation will help you overcome obstacles that may come your way.
7. Laugh Out Loud
It’s tough to lighten up with hectic deadlines, meetings, tasks etc. but take a minute to humour yourself! Watch a funny video during your break or read a funny article. By taking a few minutes to chuckle, your mood will instantly change.
8. Healthy Bites
Eating healthy is key to being stress-free. I suggest keeping trail-mix, fruit or veggies near your desk. Giving your body healthy nutrients will help you focus, feel good and give you the energy you need to carry on.
9. Happy Moments
Keep pictures of your loved ones or happy moments near your desk. A quick glance will surely make you smile and brighten your day.
10. Fresh Flowers
Flowers are the perfect accessory to keep at your desk! Not only are they pretty, but smelling the roses can lift your spirits in a matter of seconds.
